RaccoonO365 Phishing Network Disrupted; 338 Domains Seized

🔒 Microsoft and Cloudflare coordinated a court-ordered disruption that seized 338 domains used by RaccoonO365, a phishing-as-a-service accused of harvesting over 5,000 Microsoft 365 credentials across 94 countries since July 2024. The takedown, executed between September 2–8, 2025, removed malicious Workers scripts, placed interstitial phish warnings, and suspended accounts to cut criminal access. RaccoonO365 was marketed by subscription and used legitimate services like Cloudflare Turnstile and Workers to harden phishing pages and evade detection.

Microsoft to Auto-Install 365 Copilot on Windows in Oct

📥 Microsoft will automatically install the Microsoft 365 Copilot app on Windows devices that already have Microsoft 365 desktop apps beginning in early October, with rollout completing by mid-November 2025. The app will be placed in the Start menu and enabled by default, but administrators can opt out via the Apps Admin Center. Systems in the EEA are excluded, and Microsoft advises IT to notify helpdesk teams and users beforehand to reduce confusion and support requests.

Microsoft Gives Free One-Year 365 to U.S. Students

🎓 Microsoft is offering a free 12-month subscription to Microsoft 365 Personal for U.S. college students, including community college attendees, with the offer available through October 31, 2025. The subscription includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, and Outlook with the Copilot AI assistant, plus 1 TB of OneDrive storage and ransomware protection. Students must verify enrollment via a school email or documentation, and a 50% discount is available if they keep the plan after the first year. Microsoft also announced educator grants, community college certifications, AI training, and expanded Copilot access for U.S. schools.

Microsoft Word to Auto-Save New Documents to Cloud

📝 Microsoft is testing a change that will enable autosave and save new documents to OneDrive by default in Word for Windows, delivered first to Microsoft 365 Insiders in the Beta Channel with Version 2509 (Build 19221.20000) or later. Microsoft says the feature will come to Excel and PowerPoint for Windows later this year. Users can choose a local folder instead or toggle the behavior off via the Save page in Word options. Microsoft lists several known issues being addressed during testing.
