AWS Recycle Bin Extends Support to EBS Volumes Now

♻️ Recycle Bin for Amazon EBS now supports EBS Volumes, allowing you to recover accidentally deleted volumes directly rather than restoring from snapshots. You can create retention rules to protect all volumes or target specific volumes with tags; recovered volumes retain tags, permissions, and encryption and are immediately available at full performance. Volumes in Recycle Bin are billed at standard EBS Volume rates and the capability is available via CLI, SDKs, and the AWS Console across commercial, China, and AWS GovCloud (US) Regions.

Amazon ECS: Managed EBS Permissions for Non-Root Containers

🔐 Amazon Elastic Container Service (ECS) now supports mounting Amazon EBS volumes to containers running as non-root users. ECS automatically sets file system permissions on the attached EBS volume so non-root processes can securely read and write while preserving root ownership. This removes the need for manual chown/chmod or custom entrypoint scripts, simplifying security-first container deployments. The capability is available across all AWS Regions for EC2, AWS Fargate, and ECS Managed Instances.

Amazon EBS adds per-minute avg IOPS and throughput metrics

📈 Amazon EBS now emits two new per-volume CloudWatch metrics—VolumeAvgIOPS and VolumeAvgThroughput—providing one-minute average I/O and throughput visibility. These metrics are enabled by default at no extra charge for all EBS volumes attached to EC2 Nitro instances in Commercial Regions, including AWS GovCloud (US) and AWS China. Use them to monitor trends, troubleshoot performance bottlenecks, tune provisioned performance, and build dashboards or alarms to automate responses.

Amazon EBS io2 Block Express Now Available in China Regions

🔔 Amazon EBS io2 Block Express is now available in AWS China (Beijing) Region, operated by Sinnet, and China (Ningxia) Region, operated by NWCD. The service delivers consistent sub-millisecond latency and 99.999% durability with single-volume limits of 256,000 IOPS, 4 GiB/s throughput, and up to 64 TiB capacity. Volumes support multi-attach within an Availability Zone with NVMe reservations for shared storage fencing. Existing io1 users can nondisruptively upgrade via the ModifyVolume API to gain higher performance, durability, and improved cost-efficiency.

AWS FIS Adds EBS I/O Latency Injection for Testing

⚙️ Amazon EBS now provides a latency injection action in AWS Fault Injection Service (FIS) to simulate degraded I/O performance on EBS volumes as part of controlled fault injection experiments. The action reproduces real-world signals such as Amazon CloudWatch alarms and OS timeouts so teams can observe application behavior and validate recovery. Pre-defined templates are available in the EBS and FIS consoles, and experiments can be customized or combined with other actions to integrate into chaos engineering and CI workflows. The capability is available in all Regions where FIS is supported.
