CloudWatch & OpenSearch Integrated Analytics Expands

📈 Amazon has expanded the CloudWatch and OpenSearch Service integrated analytics experience to five additional commercial regions: Asia Pacific (Osaka and Seoul), Europe (Milan and Spain), and US West (N. California). CloudWatch Logs customers can now query logs with SQL or OpenSearch PPL in addition to CloudWatch Logs Insights QL, including JOINs, subqueries, and rich JSON, mathematical, datetime and string functions. With a few clicks, users can create OpenSearch dashboards for VPC, WAF, and CloudTrail logs and analyze data in-place without copying logs or building ETL pipelines.

AWS Network Firewall adds ReceivedBytes metric in CloudWatch

🔍 AWS has added the new ReceivedBytes metric for AWS Network Firewall to Amazon CloudWatch, giving customers per-firewall visibility into total incoming bytes inspected. The metric differentiates counts for the stateless and stateful engines, enabling more granular analysis of processing and performance. Available in all Regions where Network Firewall is supported, the data can be integrated into existing monitoring, alerting, and optimization workflows to support capacity planning and cost reduction.

Custom Metrics in Amazon CloudWatch Application Signals

🔍 Amazon CloudWatch Application Signals now supports Custom Metrics, enabling developers and operators to define and visualize application-specific telemetry alongside standard health metrics such as fault rates, errors, and latency. You can ingest metrics directly with OpenTelemetry Metrics or derive them from spans using the OpenTelemetry Traces SDK and Metrics Filters. The Application Signals console offers correlated views in the Related Metrics tab, interactive visualization, and quick navigation to correlated spans, top contributors, and related logs. Custom Metrics support is available in all regions where Application Signals is offered; see documentation and CloudWatch pricing for details.

AWS VPC IPAM Console Adds CloudWatch Alarm Management

🔔 Amazon Web Services has enhanced Amazon VPC IP Address Manager (IPAM) with deeper Amazon CloudWatch alarm integration, bringing alarm visibility and management directly into the IPAM console. Alarms are now visible across IPAM pages and a new resource-level Alarms tab lists alerts associated with specific IPAM resources. You can create alarms from the console (which redirects to CloudWatch with relevant fields pre-populated) and receive proactive monitoring suggestions for resources without alarms. The feature is available in all Regions where IPAM is supported, including AWS China and AWS GovCloud (US).

CloudWatch adds regional support for natural language queries

🔍 Amazon CloudWatch Logs Insights now extends its natural language query result summarization to 15 additional AWS Regions, delivering AI-generated, concise descriptions of query outputs to speed troubleshooting. Additionally, natural language query generation is available in six more Regions for CloudWatch Logs Insights and Metrics Insights, while PPL and SQL query generation has been added in three Regions. These features let users express intent in plain English to produce queries and receive readable summaries without deep query-language expertise, reducing time to actionable insight.

DynamoDB: Emit Only Throttled Key Events to CloudWatch

📈 DynamoDB now supports selectively emitting events for throttled keys to CloudWatch Contributor Insights, enabling you to monitor only throttled items rather than all accessed keys. By emitting exclusively throttled-key events, you reduce monitoring costs and noise while maintaining visibility into throttling and usage hotspots. This mode is available in all commercial AWS Regions, GovCloud (US), and China Regions.
