AWS Directory Service Managed Microsoft AD Now in NZ

📢 AWS has announced that AWS Managed Microsoft AD and AD Connector are now available in the Asia Pacific (New Zealand) Region. AWS Managed Microsoft AD is built on actual Microsoft Active Directory and helps reduce the operational burden of running AD infrastructure in AWS while enabling domain join for EC2, containers, and Kubernetes. AD Connector acts as a proxy to let AWS services use existing on-premises AD identities and group policies without provisioning AD in the cloud.

AWS Directory Service Adds PrivateLink VPC Connectivity

🔒 AWS Directory Service now supports AWS PrivateLink, enabling you to route all Directory Service API and Directory Service Data API traffic through private VPC endpoints. This removes the need for internet gateways or NAT devices and reduces latency by creating requester-managed ENIs in enabled subnets. The feature covers directory management and user operations and is available in all Regions where AWS Directory Service is supported.

AWS Directory Service: Programmatic Edition Upgrades

🔁 AWS now lets customers upgrade Managed Microsoft AD from Standard to Enterprise Edition programmatically using the UpdateDirectorySetup API. The self-service workflow removes the need to open support tickets and automates pre-upgrade snapshots and sequential domain controller upgrades to preserve availability. Edition upgrades are available via the AWS SDK in all Directory Service regions and can be integrated with existing automation and infrastructure-as-code pipelines for on-demand scaling.
