🛡️ AWS Backup now supports including Amazon Redshift Serverless namespaces and Amazon Aurora DSQL clusters directly as resource types in AWS Organizations backup policies. Organization administrators can create policy rules that explicitly target these resource types across member accounts rather than relying on tag-based selections or backing up all resources. The capability is available in all AWS Commercial and GovCloud Regions where AWS Backup and the services are offered. This integration supports Amazon Aurora (MySQL and PostgreSQL), Amazon RDS for MySQL, PostgreSQL, and MariaDB in commercial Regions where RDS Proxy is available, and deployments can be initiated via the RDS Console or CLI.

⚡ Amazon RDS for Oracle now supports M8i and R8i 8th‑generation instances powered by custom Intel Xeon 6 processors available only on AWS. These instance types deliver up to 15% better price‑performance and up to 2.5× more memory bandwidth versus prior Intel‑based generations, targeting memory‑intensive and latency‑sensitive Oracle workloads. Support is offered in a Bring Your Own License (BYOL) model for Oracle Database Enterprise Edition and Standard Edition 2, and you can modify existing RDS instances or create new ones through the RDS Management Console, AWS SDKs, or CLI.

🔒 Amazon RDS for Oracle now supports cross-account snapshot sharing for database instances configured with additional storage volumes. Customers can create, share, and copy DB snapshots that preserve the original storage layout, including up to three attached volumes, across AWS accounts and Regions. Use cases include isolated backups for compliance and restoring snapshots in separate accounts for diagnostics, development, and testing. This capability is available today via the AWS Management Console, AWS CLI, and AWS SDKs.

🔐 The new Aurora DSQL connectors for .NET (Npgsql) and Rust (SQLx) simplify secure application access by automating IAM token generation, SSL setup, and connection pooling. They remove reliance on static user passwords while remaining fully compatible with existing driver features. The connectors also provide opt-in optimistic concurrency control retries with exponential backoff, custom IAM credential providers, and AWS profile support to ease credential management.

🏢 Amazon RDS for Oracle is now available on AWS Outposts, enabling customers to run a managed Oracle database service on-premises with the same operational model used in AWS Regions. The offering supports Oracle Database 19c and 21c under a BYOL model and includes automated backups, automated patching, point-in-time recovery, CloudWatch monitoring, and encryption at rest with AWS KMS. It also supports multi-AZ deployments across Outposts racks for high availability and provides options for disaster recovery to the parent AWS Region or across Outposts.

🚀 Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL introduces an express configuration that creates serverless clusters and enables query execution in seconds. These clusters are provisioned outside a VPC with an internet access gateway that supports the full PostgreSQL wire protocol and multi‑AZ availability. IAM-based passwordless admin authentication is enabled by default, and the tier is available under the AWS Free Tier. Use the RDS Console, AWS CLI, or SDKs to deploy.

🚀 Amazon has added Aurora PostgreSQL serverless to the AWS Free Tier for new accounts. New customers receive $100 in AWS credits at sign-up and can earn an additional $100 by using qualifying services including Amazon RDS. With the Free Plan you can create an Aurora PostgreSQL serverless cluster from the RDS Console, AWS CLI, or AWS SDKs using an express configuration to create and query a database in seconds. The Free Tier is available in Regions that support Aurora PostgreSQL serverless.

⚙️ Amazon RDS Custom for SQL Server now enables customers to view and schedule operating system updates for RDS provided engine versions (RPEV), where each RPEV is a SQL Server version pre-installed on an Amazon Machine Image. Customers can check pending updates via the describe-pending-maintenance-actions API or subscribe to event RDS-EVENT-0230 for alerts. They can apply updates immediately or use apply-pending-maintenance-action to schedule installation during the next maintenance window. These capabilities are available in all AWS Regions that offer RDS Custom for SQL Server.

🔒 AWS Backup now supports Amazon RDS Multi‑AZ clusters in 17 additional AWS Regions, extending managed backup coverage across Asia Pacific, Europe, South America, Africa, and Canada. The expansion brings centralized lifecycle management and immutable backups via AWS Backup Vault Lock to Multi‑AZ RDS clusters, improving retention controls and tamper protection. Administrators can add clusters to existing backup plans or create new plans and attach clusters using the console, AWS CLI, or SDKs.

🔒 Amazon CloudWatch Database Insights now provides lock contention diagnostics for Amazon RDS for PostgreSQL instances when operating in Advanced mode. The feature visualizes blocking and waiting sessions to highlight the dominant sessions, queries, or objects causing contention and preserves historical locking data for up to 15 months. You can enable diagnostics on PostgreSQL clusters via the RDS console, AWS APIs, or the AWS SDK. CloudWatch Database Insights is available in all public AWS Regions and uses vCPU-based pricing.

To adopt LTS, create a new cluster using engine version 5.0.0 or patch an existing 5.0.0 cluster during your maintenance window. Verify your Engine Patch Version with db.runCommand({getEngineVersion: 1}) and ensure it is 3.0.17983 or later. LTS is available in all AWS regions where DocumentDB is offered.

🔢 Amazon Aurora DSQL now supports identity columns and sequence objects, enabling auto-incrementing, integer-based IDs to be generated directly in the database. This simplifies migrations from PostgreSQL and reduces the need for application-layer ID generation. The capability is available in all Regions where Aurora DSQL is provided and supports compact, human-readable identifiers such as order numbers and account IDs.
