On-demand Advantage is an account-level setting that changes pricing and capabilities, offering data ingest at $0.032/GB and data retrieval and enhanced fan-out retrieval at $0.016/GB, making high fan-out workloads more cost effective. Existing RegisterStreamConsumer API calls continue to register enhanced fan-out consumers up to the 50-consumer limit.

On‑demand Advantage requires a minimum billed aggregate of 25 MB/s for both ingest and retrieval at the discounted rates and is available in all AWS regions, including GovCloud (US) and China.

Amazon Kinesis Data Streams: Record Size Raised to 10MiB

📣 Amazon Web Services has increased the maximum record size for Kinesis Data Streams from 1MiB to 10MiB and doubled the maximum PutRecords request size to 10MiB. You can update a stream's maximum record size to 10MiB via the AWS Management Console or the UpdateMaxRecordSize API using the AWS SDK or CLI, and continue using existing Kinesis APIs to publish and consume larger records. AWS Lambda now supports Kinesis payloads up to 6MiB; there are no additional charges beyond standard Kinesis fees. The feature is available in supported regions and AWS provides documentation describing region coverage and downstream handling guidance.

Amazon Kinesis Data Streams Adds FIS API Error Actions

🧪 Amazon Kinesis Data Streams now integrates with AWS Fault Injection Service (FIS) to simulate Kinesis API errors and validate application error handling, retry logic, and monitoring. Customers can induce throttling, internal errors, service unavailable, and expired iterator exceptions—covering 500, 503, and 400 responses for GET and PUT operations—to test resilience and CloudWatch alarms. FIS experiments support templates, CI integration, and automatic stop thresholds to keep tests controlled, and are generally available in all Regions where FIS is offered, including AWS GovCloud (US).

AWS Kinesis Data Streams Adds IPv6 and FIPS in GovCloud

🌐 Amazon Web Services announced that Kinesis Data Streams now supports API requests over IPv6 in the AWS GovCloud (US) Regions, with optional dual-stack (IPv4/IPv6) public and VPC endpoints. The new endpoints have been validated under FIPS 140-3, enabling FIPS-compliant encryption for customers contracting with the US federal government. IPv6 support reduces address overlap and simplifies connectivity for devices and networks already using IPv6. This capability is available in all Regions where Kinesis Data Streams operates, including GovCloud and China Regions.
