Scattered LAPSUS$ Hunters: Recent Activity and Risks

🚨 Unit 42 observed renewed activity from Scattered LAPSUS$ Hunters in early October 2025, including leaked data claims, a defaced clearnet leak site, and announcements of an extortion-as-a-service offering. The actors set a self-imposed ransom deadline of Oct. 10, 2025 and claimed to have released data allegedly from six victim companies across aviation, energy and retail. Unit 42 recommends organizations prepare EaaS incident playbooks and engage third-party responders.

Discord discloses data breach after support-ticket hack

🔒 Discord disclosed that attackers accessed a third-party customer support system on September 20 and stole a limited set of user support tickets and associated data. Exposed information included names, usernames, email addresses, IP addresses, messages and attachments, photos of government-issued IDs for a small number of users, and partial billing details such as payment type and the last four card digits. Discord says it isolated the vendor, revoked access, launched an internal and forensics investigation, and engaged law enforcement. The threat actor demanded a ransom and a group claiming responsibility said the breach involved a Zendesk instance.

KrebsOnSecurity Featured in HBO Max 'Most Wanted' Series

📰 The HBO Max documentary Most Wanted: Teen Hacker features interviews with Brian Krebs and examines the criminal trajectory of Julius Kivimäki, a Finnish hacker convicted for extensive data breaches and later mass extortion. The four-part series traces his early role in the Lizard Squad, high-profile DDoS attacks, swatting incidents, and the Vastaamo psychotherapy breach and patient extortion. Directed by Sami Kieski and co-written by Joni Soila, episodes will stream weekly on Fridays throughout September.
